Easter in Russia is one of the most important Russian holidays. The Russian Orthodox Church celebrates Easter according to the Orthodox calendar, and it can happen in April or May. Like many countries in Eastern Europe, Russians celebrate Easter with decorated eggs and special foods and customs.

Russians celebrate Easter with an Easter breakfast or Easter meal. Sometimes the food is blessed by the church before being eaten. Eggs may be cracked with nails as a reminder of Christ. Additionally, one egg may be cut into pieces - one piece for each family member at the Easter table.wink

Ingredients:

1 cup rice

1 maggi with vegetables

2 eggs

1 lemon

1/2 tablespoon salt

water

Method :

 Put the rice to be cooked well along with five glasses of water and maggi.

 Beat the eggs in a bowl and add the lemon juice, salt and a glass of water and mix 

Take a little of the broth of casserole and add in the basin 

Then add the mixture to pan a little bit to casserole and mix

What do people do on Easter Monday

 

Egg rolling race is a traditional game on Easter Monday. There is a big race held on the lawn of the White House in Washington. Sometimes even the President takes part in the “White House Easter Egg Roll. Eggs are rolled down a hill or slope and there is a variety of activities, as well as food and entertainment, for families.

The White House Easter egg collection involves a tradition that began in 1994 where each state sends a decorated egg to the White House for display. Artists from across the United States created decorated eggs that represent each state and the District of Columbia. Each year the artists vote amongst themselves to select the artist to create the following year's commemorative egg which is presented to the President and First Lady. The collection is coordinated by the American Egg Board

Easter is the most important holiday in Greece, and in the Orthodox church.

In Greece, there are a lot of customs and traditions. One of them, is the paint of eggs. They boil the eggs on Holy Thursday and they painted red to signify the blood of Christ.

 

They usually light a huge bonfire in the church to burn Judas. The Greeks have many traditions in the Easter. They roasting a lamb and they meet all friends and family to celebrate the Easter. The lamp must to be on the spit for 6 hours.

Although they make a traditional ‘’tsoureki’’. Tsoureki is a sweet bread which make it with chocolate or chestnut.

 

THE BIG WEEK

At the big week with my brother we went at our village to see our grandma and our grandpa.We stayed there for the weekend and on Sunday our grandma invited our relatives and had lunch there until the afternoon.We had a great time and we were suprised to see many of our uncles and aunts that we hadn't seen for a long time.

 In Canada, on Good Friday they do an Easter egg hunt, egg hunt is game which adults hide egg indoors and outdoors the house and children have to find them.Easter Day is a popular day for attending church, getting together for a big family meal, and doing an Easter egg hunt. People also decorate Easter eggs, join in Easter craft contests and indulge in holiday recipes. However many people organized spring festivals associated with the Pagan gods in ancient times. Many festivals celebrated nature's rebirth, the return the land to fertility and the birth of many young animals.

     Ingredients

  • 135g butter, from cow’s milk, at room temperature (4.7 oz.)
  • 135g milk, at room temperature (4.7 oz.)
  • 200g sugar (7 oz.)
  • 4 medium eggs, at room temperature
  • 870g bread flour (30 oz.)
  • 21g dry yeast (0.7 oz.)
  • 100g lukewarm water (3.5 0z.)
  • zest of 1 orange
  • 3g ground mastic (0.11 oz.)
  • 4g ground mahleb (0.14 oz.)
  • 1 egg and 1 tbsp water, for glazing the tsoureki
  • almond silvers for garnish

For the syrup

  • 150g sugar (3.5 oz.)
  • 150g water (3.5 oz.)

 

Procedure

Add in a bowl the lukewarm water, a pinch of sugar and yeast and stir. Wrap well with plastic wrap and set aside for about 6-7 minutes, until the yeast rises and starts bubbling.

Use a pestle or a blender to ground the masticha and mahlepi, along with a pinch of sugar and set aside.

In a saucepan add the butter, sugar and milk. Place over very low heat and stir the mixture, until the butter has melted and the sugar has dissolved.

Pour the butter mixture in a large bowl and whisk in the eggs. Add the yeast mixture and whisk to combine.

In the mixer’s bowl add the flour, the ground mastic and mahlepi, orange zest and the butter-egg-yeast mixture from step 4. Using the dough hook mix at first at low speed, until the ingredients start to combine and then mix at medium-high speed for about 15 minutes, until the dough doesn’t stick on the sides of the bowl. At this point the dough should be really soft, like seen in the picture and a little sticky.

Cover the dough with plastic wrap and place in a warm environment, until at least it doubles it’s size. If the environment is cold, preheat the oven at 30C, turn it off and place the bowl inside.

Gently deflate the tsoureki dough with your hands and cut in 6 equal portions .Take one piece of the dough  and roll it a little bit with your hands. Hold with your hands from the edges and shake to stretch the dough into a rope. This technique will help the Greek Easter bread  form the characteristic stringy texture, as seen in the picture. Form the Greek Easter bread into a braid and transfer on a large baking tray layered with parchment paper. Repeat the same procedure with the second tsoureki. Let the Greek Easter bread rise for about 1 more hour at room temperature or in the oven, until it almost doubles it’s size.

In a small bowl add the egg and 1 tbsp water and whisk with a fork. Brush the top of each Greek Easter bread with the egg, being careful not to deflate it, garnish with almond silvers and bake in preheated oven at 170C for about 40-50 minutes, until nicely browned and fluffy.

Although the traditional tsoureki recipe doesn’t call for syrup, garnishing Greek Easter bread with just a little syrup, always gives a little something. Prepare the syrup for the Greek Easter bread just right before you turn the tsoureki out of the oven. In a small pot add the sugar and water and bring to the boil. As soon as the sugar dissolves, remove the pot from the stove and ladle the hot syrup over the hot tsoureki.

Let the Greek Easter bread cool down and wrap well with plastic wrap, so that it doesn’t become hard and dry. Store for up to a 5-7 days at room temperature.

·         6 cups chicken or vegetable broth

·         1 cup rice

·         1 or 2 eggs

·         1 to 2 Tbsp. lemon juice

·         Salt and freshly ground black pepper

 

Bring the broth to a boil. Add the rice, cook until the rice or pasta is tender.

Meanwhile, whisk the egg thoroughly. You want to really break them up – when you lift the whisk out of the bowl the egg should fall off evenly and seem almost as thin as water, with no globs or thickness to them.

When the rice is tender, ladle out about 1 cup of broth into a measuring cup or small pitcher. Whisk 1 Tbsp. of the lemon juice into the egg and then slowly pour the hot broth into the egg mixture while whisking the mixture constantly. This action will cook the egg but keep it from curdling.

EASTER IN GERMANY

Many people attend a special church service on Easter Sunday. Churches are decorated with many beautiful flowers.Some communities have breakfast or lunch after the church service .

The most popular food for lunch , breakfast re evening meal on Easter day are :
